The original images in the series "Mother Medicine" come from medical archives in The Wellcome Collection, London. They all show an artificial and sterile (Western) conception of medicine, with a quasi-retro-futuristic aesthetic: the Modernist dream of progress and machines.

 

This sterility is opposed to the natural processes of the anthotype print: the images are developed in sunlight, using emulsions made from natural and local ingredients - fruits, flowers, vegetables and seeds - all with healing properties.
